BOLINGBROOK – Cali Girl Cakes celebrated its one-year anniversary March 8. A party was held March 7 at the store, 681 W. Boughton Road in Bolingbrook.

The beach-themed party paid homage to the California roots of Alicia Gozum, the owner and pastry chef. A cupcake tower housed a variety of cupcakes decorated in sea blue, white and gold topped with candied seashells. There were star fish and sea horse shaped sugar cookies, as well as other tasty bite sized treats, bars and beverages.

Alicia's husband, Jerry, explained Bolingbrook was the chosen for the bakery “because we live here and love the people of Bolingbrook. It was a six-year process to make this dream come true and we feel blessed to be a part of this community.”

Cali Girl Cakes specializes in wedding and special occasion cakes, but long-time patrons love other treats offered at the bakery as well.

“Our passion is to provide quality gourmet sweet treats for everyone to enjoy,” Alicia said in the news release, “and we believe, based on the public’s response, that we have achieved that in our first year.

"Now we’re looking to expand on that growth in our second year through word of mouth and social media that Bolingbrook has a bakery that serves the highest quality and can compete with the best of them at very competitive prices. We hope to continue this journey for many years to come."
