Police Reports: Elmhurst for March 6

Information in Police Reports is obtained from the Elmhurst Police Department. Individuals listed in Police Reports who have been charged with a crime have not been proven guilty in court.

Controlled substance possession

Marie Velez, 31, 510 Marie Court, Addison, was charged at 4:34 p.m. Feb. 6 with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to secure a child in a child restraint seat after a traffic stop at Grand Avenue and York Street. The driver of the vehicle, James R. Buck, 30, 913 Harold Ave., Melrose Park, was cited at the same time and date for illegal transportation of open alcohol, tinted windows and an expired driver’s license at the same location.

Prostitution

Laura James, 22, 440 W. Division St., Villa Park, and Roberta Grove, 24, 516 W. Division St., Villa Park, each were charged at 10:48 p.m. Feb. 6 with attempt to promote prostitution, prostitution and unlawful possession of marijuana after they allegedly agreed to perform sexual activity for $350.

Domestic battery

• Ruth Andersen, 63, 771 S. Cedar Ave., was charged at 12:06 a.m. Feb. 6 with domestic battery after she allegedly struck a man in the head with a frying pan four to six times in the 700 block of South Cedar Avenue.

• Susan Chymka-Smolens, 60, 209 Evergreen Ave., was charged at 9:39 p.m. Feb. 8 with domestic battery after she allegedly grabbed and squeezed a man’s genitals in the 200 block of Evergreen Avenue.

DUI

Robert Schaul, 69, 1375 Sheridan Road, Highland Park, was charged at 8:15 p.m. Feb. 7 with driving under the influence of alcohol, expired registration and trespassing on railroad property after his vehicle was found stuck on the railroad tracks at Huntington Lane.

Burglary

• A pair of Nike shoes and 65 CDs were reported stolen at 10:22 a.m. Feb. 5 after the rear window of a vehicle was shattered and the trunk opened while it was parked at 655 W. Grand Ave.

• A Garmen GPS and Prada sunglasses were reported stolen at 9:25 a.m. Feb. 6 from a vehicle while it was parked in a driveway in the 500 block of East Park Avenue.

Theft

• A spare tire and rim were reported stolen from the undercarriage of a vehicle at 12:22 p.m. Feb. 5 while it was in the parking lot of 360 W. Butterfield Road.

• Christopher J. Scola, 22, 882 Parkside Ave., and Kacee L. Uysaloglu, 25, 3500 New Leaf Lane, Peoria, each were charged at 3:42 p.m. Feb. 5 with retail theft at Jewel-Osco, 944 S. York Road. Scola and Uysaloglu were seen leaving Great Clips, 1024 S. York Road, where they allegedly stole several items. It also is alleged Uysaloglu was in possession of numerous Xanax bars and provided police with a false name and date of birth. She was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and obstructing identification.

• Juan Tapia, 31, 605 N. Wolf Road, Hillside, was charged at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 5 with retail theft after he allegedly stole a pack of razors from K-Mart, 265 S. Route 83.

• A wallet containing a Chase credit card, U.S. Bank ATM card, $100 Visa gift card, driver’s license and about $60 was reported stolen at 8:45 p.m. Feb. 6 after it was left unattended in a shoe at the YMCA, 211 W. First St.

• A wallet containing a York High School ID, several gift cards, Chase debit card, YMCA ID and between $25 and $30 was reported stolen at 9:13 p.m. Feb. 6 after it was left unattended in a shoe at the YMCA, 211 W. First St.

• Cash totaling $24 was reported stolen at 9:13 p.m. Feb. 6 from a coat in a gym bag at the YMCA, 211 W. First St.

• A spare tire was reported stolen at 1:41 p.m. Feb. 7 from a truck while the vehicle was parked at Timothy Christian Schools, 188 W. Butterfield Road.

• A white iPhone 5S valued at $600 was reported stolen at 10:17 p.m. Feb. 7 from an employee cubbie at SkyZone, 325 W. Lake St.

Property damage

• A garage was reportedly vandalized at 1:19 p.m. Feb. 7 in the 200 block of Elm Avenue.

• A red line drawn across a fence was reported at 5:32 p.m. Feb. 7 in the 200 block of West Second Street.

Marijuana possession

• Mary Lee Wease, 24, 816 N. Grant St., Addison, was charged at 7:32 p.m. Feb. 6 with unlawful possession of marijuana, operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and disobeying a stop sign after a traffic stop at York and Church streets.

• Juan Medina, 33, 4636 W. Altgeld St., Chicago, was charged at 7:35 p.m. Feb. 7 with unlawful possession of marijuana and operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license after a traffic stop at North and Clinton avenues.

Warrant arrests

Pete D. Waiters, 29, 1155 S. Finley Road, Lombard, was arrested at 4:37 p.m. Feb. 7 on two DuPage County failure to appear warrants and charged with operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid registration, display of registration sticker and failure to secure a child under 8 at Roosevelt Road and Villa Avenue.

Disorderly conduct

• DeShawn Thomas, 19, 340 E. Ridge Ave., and Anthony M. Garay, 21, 250 Van Buren St., each were charged at 7:35 p.m. Feb. 4 with city ordinance – dangerous missiles after allegedly throwing ice over a hockey rink wall while a game was in progress at the YMCA, 211 W. First St.

• Unwanted visits by an individual demanding money were reported at 4:19 p.m. Feb. 5 in the 100 block of East Belden Avenue. A woman said a man who did lawn work for her in the past keeps coming to her home demanding money for work completed last year. The woman told police she paid the man in full. He informed police that he is owed $200 and denied visiting the woman’s home multiple times.

• A laser was reportedly directed at a bedroom window at 12:16 a.m. Feb. 7 in the 100 block of West McKinley Avenue.

• Snow thrown off a roof was reported at 4:41 p.m. Feb. 7 in the 100 block of Schiller Street. The individuals responsible admitted to pushing snow off the ledge, but said they checked to make sure no one was below. The parents of the people involved were notified.

Lost items

A black wristlet purse was reported lost at 10 p.m. Feb. 6 after it was left on a counter at Shell Oil, 218 W. Butterfield Road.

Traffic violations

• Jerry L. Lawrence, 45, 106 Hillside Ave., Hillside, was charged at 7:59 p.m. Feb. 5 with operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license and improper display of registration at Roosevelt Road and York Street.

• Francisco Cano, 27, 191 S. Villa Ave., Addison, was charged at 9:39 p.m. Feb. 8 with operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid driver’s license and one headlight at York Street and Wrightwood Avenue.
