Woodstock woman hospitalized after car crashes into laundromat

WOODSTOCK – A 53-year-old woman was in serious condition Wednesday after a car crashed through a Woodstock laundromat, fire officials said.

The Woodstock Fire Rescue District was dispatched a little after 7 a.m. for a vehicle that had reportedly crashed into a Smart Wash at 331 Irving Ave., Capt. Brendan Parker said.

"The vehicle was already backed away from the building upon arrival," Parker said.

The vehicle's occupant, identified by police as Diane M. Molenda of Woodstock, was unconscious and taken to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock in serious condition, Parker said.

Woodstock Police Chief Robert Lowen said it was his understanding that Molenda had a medical condition before the crash.

There were people in the business at the time of the incident, but nobody else was injured.

Parker said the glass window was shattered, but there was no other structural damage to the building. Both he and Lowen said the window was boarded up and the business continued operations after the incident.

The crash is under investigation by the Woodstock Police Department.
