Braidwood police charge man with assault, indecent exposure

BRAIDWOOD – Police say a motel guest exposed himself and broke a video camera Tuesday.

Peter R. Kooyenga, 57, was arrested and booked into the Will County Jail on charges of assault, vandalism, disorderly conduct, indecent exposure and resisting arrest.

Braidwood Police Chief Rich Girot said Kooyenga was “highly intoxicated” on the three occasions police were called to his residence at the Sands Motel, 1179 W. Kennedy Road.

“There was an argument around 5 a.m. He locked himself in his room when officers arrived and then broke his own door to try and get out,” Girot said.

Police returned about 11 a.m. after Kooyenga reportedly became irate the motel manager had not fixed the door yet.

At 4:05 p.m. police were called for a third time when Kooyenga allegedly became angry the motel manager was using a video camera to record his behavior.

“During the argument, he dropped his pants and made lewd gestures, then broke the camera during a scuffle,” Girot said.

No one was injured.
