CHANNAHON – Channahon Village President Joe Cook announced he will be retiring after serving as village president for the past 12 years.
“I’ve served the community for the past couple of decades and I’m busy with work and family life so it’s time to retire,” Cook said Tuesday.
Cook served as trustee for six years before being elected as village president.
“When I started as mayor, Route 6 was two lanes of traffic, we had a trailer court at one end of town and farm fields at the other,” he said.
He said the village has seen a large amount of growth and they battled a time when residential growth burdened their school districts, but he is happy with all that has been accomplished.
One person has filed a petition to run for the village’s top office in April: current Trustee Missey Schumacher.
