LOMBARD – The wake and funeral for a Glenbard East High School senior who died this week will take place Sunday and Monday in Lombard.

Glenbard East learned Wednesday morning of the death of Jake Drew, the captain of the wrestling team at the Lombard school.

The wake will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. The funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Monday at the same location.

After learning of his death, many of Drew's peers took to Twitter to express their condolences.

"RIP to Jake Drew, an amazing wrestler and awesome person. You'll be missed," one tweet said.

"RIP Jake Drew. Love you brother," another read.

"Still can't believe it. Rest in peace Jake Drew," a friend shared.

Glenbard Township High School District 87 does not know the cause or time of death, Community Relations Coordinator Peg Mannion said Wednesday, and the results of an autopsy are pending, according to the DuPage County Coroner's Office.

Glenbard East Principal Josh Chambers sent an email Wednesday to parents to encourage them to speak to their children during this time.

"We were saddened to learn of the death of Jacob Drew, a Glenbard East senior, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family," Chambers said in the email. "We have informed our students of this loss. Many students have been affected by this news. We encourage you to be especially sensitive and prepared to offer support to your teen during this time."

Glenbard East counselors have been available to speak to students and staff impacted by the loss, Mannion said.

"The death of a student is just the greatest loss a school can experience," she said.

In addition to being on the wrestling team, Drew also ran cross country during his high school career, Mannion said.
