York student injured
after shirt catches fire

A York High School student was transported to Elmhurst Hospital at 10:16 a.m. Oct. 21 from school after his shirt caught fire while helping to boil water on a gas stove. Police observed what appeared to be first- and second-degree burns on the student’s back, but they did not have an update on the student’s condition.

Battery

• Patricia Vandehouten, 49, 400 block of South Argyle Avenue, was charged at 9:39 p.m. Oct. 17 with domestic battery and unlawful interference with the reporting of domestic violence in the 400 block of South Argyle Avenue.

• Robert J. Petrie, 29, 300 block of South Princeton Avenue, Villa Park, was charged at 10:55 a.m. Oct. 20 with battery at Route 83 and North Avenue after allegedly punching another driver in the face during a road rage incident.

Heroin possession

Radoslaw Zawadzki, 23, 800 block of North York Street, was charged at 6:48 p.m. Oct. 18 with unlawful possession of a controlled substance in the 800 block of North York Street after police allegedly located heroin and syringes in the apartment.

DUI

• William Rodriguez, 23, 100 block of North Addison Avenue, was charged at 2:10 a.m. Oct. 18 with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and three counts of disobeying a stop sign at Addison Avenue and Third Street.

• Jose Roman-Bustos, 24, 2900 North Harding Avenue, Chicago, was charged at 2:26 a.m. Oct. 18 with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, two counts of DUI of alcohol, no insurance, no valid driver’s license and improper lane use at North Avenue and Interstate 290.

• Joseph Valladares, 19, 300 block of South Hale Street, Addison, was cited at 2:36 a.m. Oct. 18 for DUI of alcohol – zero tolerance, consumption of alcohol under 21, no insurance and seven counts of disobeying a stop sign at West Avenue and Utley Road. Passenger Jahmal Ross, 19, 700 block North Willow Road, was transported to DuPage County Jail on a warrant.

• Joseph M. Schroeder, 28, 100 block of East Fremont Avenue, was charged at 1:23 p.m. Oct. 22 with DUI of alcohol, failure to signal when required, loud muffler/exhaust, improper lane use, failure to notify secretary of state of a change of address, illegal transportation of alcoholic liquor, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, leaving the scene of an accident and driving in the wrong lane at Emroy and North avenues after he was involved in a hit and run at Poplar Avenue and Vallette Street.

Marijuana possession

• Tyler W. Norman, 18, 8100 block of Smith Lane, River Grove, was cited at 9:13 p.m. Oct. 19 for unlawful possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and loud exhaust at York Street and Crestview Avenue.

• Erik Sanchez, 32, 100 block of Bonnie Brae Avenue, was charged at 9:54 a.m. Oct. 20 with driving while license revoked, unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in the 100 block of East Schiller Street.

• Aaron K. Doloresco, 34, 300 block of North Center Street, Naperville, was charged at 1:22 p.m. Oct. 21 with driving while license suspended, disobeying a stop sign and unlawful possession of marijuana at Emroy Avenue and Lake Street.

• Eduardo Alvarez, 27, 400 block of Hampshire Avenue; Christopher Ross, 24, 5100 block of Warren Avenue, Hillside; and Cherish Baker, 24, 3000 block of Becket Avenue, Westchester, each were charged at 9:26 p.m. Oct. 22 with unlawful possession of marijuana in the 400 block of Hampshire Avenue. Alvarez also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Underage drinking

Matthew Macarus, 18; Angel Benitez, 18; and Grant Smiley, 18, all of the 100 block of South Prospect Avenue, were cited at 1:56 a.m. Oct. 19 for underage consumption of alcohol in the 100 block of South Prospect Avenue.

Drug paraphernalia
possession

Rhiannon R. Fay, 21, 21W400 block of Thorndale Avenue, Medinah, was charged at 5:12 p.m. Oct. 19 with no insurance, expired driver’s license, obstructed windshield and possession of drug paraphernalia at Grand Avenue and County Line Road after police allegedly found a heroin “cooking kit” inside her car.

Dog bite

Kelly Wiggins, 36, 400 block of South Hawthorne Avenue, was cited at 8 a.m. Oct. 17 for not having a city dog tag on her dog in the 400 block of South Hawthorne Avenue after the dog bit her house cleaner.

Suspicious circumstances

A cashier accepted a $100 bill as payment at 1:43 p.m. Oct. 17 in the 100 block of North York Street but later discovered it was counterfeit.

Deceptive practice

A car was stolen at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 21 in the 500 block of South Mitchell Avenue after a man paid for it with 16 $50 bills, which were found to be counterfeit.

Fraud

A woman received a fraudulent check from someone who found her on care.com between noon Oct. 8 and noon Oct. 14 in the 100 block of East Park Avenue.

Identity theft

Elmhurst residents contacted numerous companies about loans they have applied for between 8:23 a.m. Oct. 2 and 10:33 a.m. Oct. 22 in the 400 block of East Adams Street, but said they have not applied for any loans.

Attempted burglary

The side door of a house had been forced open, but nothing was reported missing between 5 p.m. Oct. 16 and 4:48 p.m. Oct. 18 in the 100 block of North Maple Avenue.

Theft, burglary

• Kyerstin Wilson, 21, 900 block of Marik Drive, Bellwood, was charged at 3:59 p.m. Oct. 18 with retail theft in the 200 block of Route 83.

• Lunya Dixon, 52, 1500 block of North King Drive, Berkeley, was cited at 4:04 p.m. Oct. 20 for retail theft in the 300 block of South Route 83.

• Bridgette C. Bartosz, 44, 300 block of North Clinton Avenue, was charged at 4:02 p.m. Oct. 21 with retail theft in the 100 block of South Route 83 after allegedly stealing $99.99 worth of diet pills.

• Juan Dawson, 21, 200 block of South 21st Avenue, Maywood, and Donche M. Hall, 18, 400 block of North Hammond Avenue, Chicago, were charged at 3:30 a.m. Oct. 22 with retail theft in the 900 block of South York Road after allegedly stealing eight bottles of alcohol. Dawson also was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

• Nine light fixtures and bulbs were reported stolen from the exterior of St. Demetrios Church at 8:55 a.m. Oct. 21 in the 800 block of Church Road.

• A 40-inch LED TV was reportedly stolen at 9:01 p.m. Oct. 21 in the 200 block of South Route 83.

• A black iPhone 4S, $60 and a gray iPhone 6 were reportedly stolen from two lockers between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the 600 block of West North Avenue.

• Jewelry and cash were reportedly stolen between 1 and 3 p.m. Oct. 22 from inside a home in the 400 block of South Mitchell Avenue.

Garage fire

A garage was damaged during a fire started by a space heater at 1:19 a.m. Oct. 22 in the 200 block of East North End Avenue. No injuries were reported, and the Elmhurst Fire Department put out the fire.

Property damage

• A car was reportedly damaged at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in the 600 block of West North Avenue.

• A man reportedly threw a bottle out of his car and dented a woman’s car at 3:59 p.m. Oct. 18 at Route 83 and Lake Street.

• A beer can was reportedly thrown through a window, breaking it, and eggs thrown at other windows between 4:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and 7:05 a.m. Oct. 20 at Jefferson Elementary School, 360 E. Crescent Ave.

Criminal defacement

Black and purple paint was reported on a partition in a McDonald’s bathroom between 4 and 9:13 p.m. Oct. 19 in the 100 block of East Butterfield Road.

Property lost

• A wallet was lost between 12:30 and 3 p.m. Oct. 17 in the 500 block of West St. Charles Road.

• A license plate was reported lost at noon Oct. 18 in the 700 block of South Bryan Street.

• A driver’s license was reported lost at 11 p.m. Oct. 16 in the 100 block of North York Street.
