Dwight man arrested after police find 200 cannabis plants

DWIGHT – More than 200 cannabis plants were discovered in Dwight, police say, leading to the arrest of a 43-year-old Dwight man on charges of manufacturing and delivery of cannabis.

The Joliet Metropolitan Area Narcotic Squad agents, assisted by Grundy County sheriff’s deputies, arrested Charles L. Johnson Jr. of 7375 S. Holm Road, Dwight, on charges of manufacturing and the delivery of cannabis, according to a news release from Sheriff Kevin Callahan’s office. Johnson is being held in the Grundy County Jail.

The outdoor marijuana grown in rural Grundy County was detected by the Illinois State Police Air Operations Unit, Callahan said Wednesday afternoon. The air unit does periodic flights in search of marijuana growth.

Once it was found, the location was put under surveillance by JMANS and confirmed, Callahan said. A search warrant was executed by Grundy County sheriff’s deputies and JMANS, and as a result of the search 206 cannabis plants, three firearms, five pounds of cannabis bagged for sale and U.S. currency were seized.

Johnson’s bond was set in Grundy County Court Wednesday at $100,000 with 10 percent to apply, according to judici.com. According to the court records on judici.com, Johnson indicated to the court he would hire an attorney. His next court appearance is set for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 4.

“I’m very proud of the work done by the MANS agents, sheriff’s deputies, and the ISP Air Operations Unit. They conducted a thorough investigation which resulted in the arrest of Charles Johnson,” Callahan said in the news release.
