Jessica Knowles of Eterna Med Spa & Laser Vein Center said many clients worry using the fillers will have them looking like a completely different person. “You don't know how many times people will tell me they are afraid of getting injections because they don't want to look like Joan Rivers,” she said. Rivers has had massive amounts of plastic surgery, something that isn’t performed at Eterna Med Spa & Laser Vein Center, Knowles said.
Why are injections used?
“(They’re) a great way for people to get quick, noticeable results with the least amount of down time,” Knowles said. “Whereas other types of anti-aging products take time to work, you can typically see a difference in your appearance with Botox and filler between one and 10 days from the time you were injected.”
Cosmetic injectable options available include Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, Belatero, and Radiesse.
While some people may think they’re not old enough to use Botox, Knowles said prevention is key.” “Botox is best used to stop the wrinkles from forming in the first place,” she said. “If you don't start getting injected until you are older and already have lines, you need more units to get a desired result, and may need several sessions before you notice a change in the wrinkles.”
Botox is injected into the forehead and around the crows feet, basically freezing the muscle, Knowles said. And it is not systemic, meaning it does not travel to other parts of the body.
Fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, Belatero, and Radiesse are designed to increase volume in the lower face.
Who is a candidate for injections?
“Any female or male over the age of 18 that have concerns about wrinkles or loss of volume,” Knowles said.
