The List: Best sweet corn in the Sauk Valley

For months, the lists in this blog have been ours. Today, it's yours!

This week, we asked our Facebook friends to tell us the best place to go for sweet corn in the region. One thing we could tell for sure is that people here love their sweet corn!

The other thing we could tell, and it wasn't a surprise, was that Selmi's Greenhouse and Farm Market – that's "Selmi's" to us – is a runaway favorite.

We received more than 100 responses, and 90 votes. Sixty-seven of them went to Selmi's.

"Best in the USA," Sheree Hunter Eshleman said of Selmi's sweet corn.

"I miss it in Georgia," wrote Tammy Fry.

"What a stupid question," Yakie Martin said. "Anyone from the Sauk Valley knows it's Selmi's."

And Carey Douglas Cooper posted: "This time of year, any time I hear that someone is making the trip to Sterling from Chicago, I have them pick up a dozen from Selmi's to bring back. Can't beat it!"

Some posters simply commented about sweet corn, without casting a specific vote.

Patricia Laverghetta wrote: "I suddenly feel a hunger for drippy butter tinged with a tad bit of salt. I can almost visualize it dripping from my chin as I type."

Just keep it off the keyboard, Patricia.
