Sycamore scouts earn badges at campout

Members of Boy Scout Troop 40, St. Mary Catholic Church of Sycamore, spent the week of June 22-28 camping and earning merit badges at Camp Napowan Adventure Base located in Wild Rose, Wisconsin.

The scouts dedicated their days to working on merit badges at program areas including shooting sports, aquatics, nature, the Skynet S.T.E.M. Lab and Flintlock Pioneer Village, a site modeled after an authentic 1870s frontier village, with a working blacksmith shop, Indian village and trading post.

Their evenings were filled with campfires, climbing, boating, swimming and camp-wide competitions between the 180 boys from 13 Midwestern Boy Scout troops.

During their stay, the 11 scouts of Troop 40 earned 54 merit badges. Favorite merit badges included those for canoeing, fingerprinting, kayaking, lifesaving, metal working, moviemaking, rifle shooting, small boat sailing and swimming.
