BROOKFIELD

Traffic stop leads to drug charges

A traffic stop for crossing lanes ended with drug charges against a Berwyn man and a Hinsdale woman in the 9400 block of Ogden Avenue at 12:53 a.m. June 27.

Police smelled a strong odor of marijuana as they walked up to the driver's window and ordered Robert J. Addair, Jr., 21 of the 3100 block of Grove Avenue, out of the vehicle along with two passengers.

A search of the vehicle revealed $32,900 in cash in the glove box and two bags of marijuana, along with a marijuana-rolled cigar, a bag containing five pills confirmed as a narcotic and two bags containing cocaine. A glass pipe was also located on the floor.

Addair was charged with two counts of possession a controlled substance and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana.

Samantha A. Kendall, 18, of Hinsdale, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Marijuana charges follow traffic stop

A Brookfield man was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop for disobeying a stop sign in the 4400 block of Prairie Avenue at 11:48 p.m. June 26. Police detected a strong odor of marijuana as they approached the driver, Tyler M. Meijer, 19, and asked for his license and proof of insurance. A search if the vehicle revealed a bag of marijuana under the seat as well as a book bag containing several items of drug paraphernalia and a jar containing marijuana. Two passengers were released without charges.

Man drives off in car without permission, faces marijuana charges

A Brookfield man was charged with possession of marijuana and criminal trespass to a vehicle after he drove off in a relative's Cadillac without permission

Matthew C. Poss, 23, of the 9100 block of Lincoln Avenue, was met by police when he returned home and officers could smell marijuana coming from the car. Poss was searched and police found a small bag of marijuana in his pocket. Poss was also wanted on a Cook County warrant and has a suspended license for DUI.

DUI

Melissa Barrows-Lieb, 42, of the 1200 block of Meadowcrest Road, La Grange Park, was charged with DUI alcohol after a traffic stop for speeding in the 9200 block of 31st Street at 2:18 a.m. June 28. Police noticed a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. She was also charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, speeding and two counts of improper lane usage.

RIVERSIDE

DUI

• Rigoberto Martinez, 25, of the 1600 block of Lombard Avenue, Cicero, was charged with DUI alcohol following a traffic stop for speeding in the 8400 block of Ogden Avenue at about 10 p.m. June 20.

• John W. Pauly, 21, of the 700 block of Hartfield Drive, North Aurora, was charged with DUI following a traffic stop for disobeying a stop sign about 5 a.m. June 18. Police found several pills in the vehicle prescribed to Pauly, one of which was an opiate. He was also issued several traffic citations.

• Brian K. O'Sullivan, 24, of the 300 block of West Roberta Street, Lemont, was charged with DUI alcohol after he was found unconscious slumped over the steering wheel in a running car in the 100 block of Maplewood Road about 8 p.m. June 21. Police noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. O'Sullivan was also cited for several traffic violations.

• Benito Mena, 33, of the 4300 block of West 62d Street, Chicago, was charged with DUI alcohol following a traffic stop for speeding in the 3500 block of Harlem Avenue at 4:35 a.m. June 22. He failed both field sobriety and breath tests. He was also cited for several traffic violations.

• Joel J. Cortez, 37, of the 1200 block of South Avenue J, Chicago, was charged with two counts of DUI alcohol following a traffic stop at Barrypoint and Scottswood roads for speeding and disobeying a traffic sign. Police noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He failed both field sobriety and breath tests. He was also cited for two traffic violations.

LYONS

Bank Robbery

Police were dispatched to Metropolitan Bank, located at 8744 W. Ogden Ave., for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at 12:54 p.m. June 20. The suspect approached the teller and handed a note demanding money and implying he had a weapon. The amount of cash given was withheld in police reports. The suspect was described as a male, Hispanic, wearing a black hat and black shirt. The suspect is believed to have been involved in several other recent area bank robberies.

Battery

• Jonathan P. Shanna, 18, of the 4000 block of South Gage Avenue, was charged with domestic battery at 5:55 a.m. June 20.

• A dispute over a parking space in the 7800 block of West 45th Street at 8:55 June 22 resulted in battery charges for Rafael Maldonado Jr., 30, of the 7800 block of West 45th Street. A second man involved in the incident, Dennis J. Roberts, 46, of the 6900 block of West 31st Street in Berwyn, was charged with assault.

Car fire reported

Police and fire department personnel were sent to 47th and Cracow for a report of a car fire at 3:47 p.m. June 22. When officers arrived they found a black Dodge Nitro fully engulfed in flames. The fire was put out and the car was found to be registered to an owner in Chicago. A second vehicle was also damaged by the fire.
