BROOKFIELD
A 37-year-old Brookfield man was charged with possession of a controlled substance after police responded to a report of a man screaming at his children June 6.
Morad Mohammed, of the 9500 block of Shields Avenue, was charged with felony unlawful possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor endangering the life of a child.
Drunken father charged for dragging daughter, 6
A 30-year-old Brookfield man was charged with endangering the life of a child and disorderly conduct after a neighbor reported him drunk and dragging his 6-year-old daughter down the street as she screamed for help June 6.
Police were called to to the 3600 block of Prairie Avenue where they found Lawrence Henning, of the 3700 block of Madison Avenue, sitting on a porch in the 3600 block of South Prairie Avenue, swaying back and forth and smelling of alcohol. A neighbor standing nearby with the child in her arms said she had seen Henning dragging the child down the street. The neighbor started following Henning and heard the child yelling, "Let go of me, someone help!"
Henning stumbled and and fell, and started yelling at the neighbor. The child then pulled away, the neighbor said.
Traffic stop leads to marijuana bust
A 42-year-old Brookfield woman was charged with possession of marijuana following a traffic stop in the 3100 block of Maple Avenue June 4.
Police noticed a strong smell of marijuana while questioning Nicole Hendrix, who said she had been smoking earlier in the day, the told police she had two small bags of marijuana in the car.
She was issued a local ordinance citation for possession of marijuana and cited for speeding and a loud muffler.
Car dies, bursts into flames
Fire of an undetermined cause destroyed a vehicle at Garfield and Arthur avenues June 6.
The owner of the vehicle said she was driving home when the engine died. As the driver was making a call, a nearby resident began to yell at her to get out of the vehicle because smoke was coming from under the bumper.
Firefighters found the car engulfed in flames and extinguished the blaze. It was determined the fire started in the engine bay.
DUI
Gloria Ray, 62, of La Grange Park, was charged with DUI alcohol after a traffic stop for improper lane usage at 31st Street and Kemman Avenue at 2:56 a.m. June 7. Police noticed a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. She was also charged with two counts of improper lane usage, driving with expired plates and driving an uninsured vehicle.
RIVERSIDE
DUI
• Horacia Sosa, 28, of the 1000 block of Glouchester Harbor, Schaumburg, was charged with two counts of DUI alcohol following a traffic stop after police received a report of a possible DUI driver in the 3500 of South Harlem Avenue at 2:47 a.m. May 24. Police observed Sosa weaving and straddling lane markers, as well as driving with the vehicle's trunk open, obstructing the rear view. Police detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He was also charged with improper lane usage and obstructed windshield, side or rear windows.
• Matthew D. Mosqueda, 32, of the 4100 block of Oak Avenue, Brookfield, was charged with DUI alcohol following a traffic stop for a suspended license at 31st Street and Desplaines Avenue at 2:21 a.m. May 25. Police smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He was also issued two traffic citations.
• Patricia M. Hundreiser-Justus, 43, of the 1600 block of West 54th Street, La Grange, at was charged with DUI alcohol following a traffic stop for weaving in traffic and driving 39 mph in a 30-mph speed zone in the 4000 block of Harlem Avenue at 2:10 a.m. May 25. Police smelled a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. Hundreiser-Justus also had two open warrants for her arrest from Countryside and La Grange.
• Jeffrey G. Pacheco, 34, of the 1200 block of Bullcreek Drive, Libertyville, was charged with DUI alcohol following a traffic stop after an officer saw him drinking from a beer bottle at 31st Street and Groveland Avenue in North Riverside at 6 p.m. May 27. Police detected a strong odor of beer on Pacheco's breath and found the empty bottle and two empty beer cans in his van. He was also issued three traffic citations.
Bike stolen
A bicycle was reported stolen from an apartment storage room in the 100 block of Quincy Street May 24.
LYONS
Graffiti reported
Graffiti was found on an outside fence, patio and siding, as well as the inside of a home in the 7900 block of West 39th Street, as reported at 5:31 p.m. May 30. Police believe the graffiti was gang related. The damage was reported after the owner received a call from their realtor informing them. A window to the home may have been left open.
Window broken
A window of a vehicle in the 8000 block of West Salisbury Avenue was reported broken by an unknown object at about 10:09 p.m. May 30. The damage was estimated at $150.
Car fire believed to be arson
Police were called to the 4100 block of Amelia Avenue at about 2:47 a.m. May 31 for a report of a car on fire. The fire was extinguished by the Lyons Fire Department and a plastic bottle with a paper wick containing gasoline was recovered as evidence.
DUI
Police received a report at 1:44 p.m. May 31 of a hit and run accident that occurred in the area of 47th Street and Harlem Avenue. Police were told the victim was following the offending vehicle west on 47th Street. The offending vehicle was stopped at 46th Street and Harlem Avenue in Forest View. Police reported smelling alcohol on the driver's breath and that he failed a breath test. Agustin Villanueva, 39, of the 2900 block of West 40th Street, Chicago, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, no insurance and having a blood alcohol content over 0.08.
Trespassing
Police were called to the 7200 block of 39th Street for a report of an unwanted person on the property of Aldi at about 7:19 p.m. May 31. Police charged Tariq Zafar, 38, of the 3900 block of Haas Avenue, with trespassing after it was learned he had been notified multiple times not to return to the store.
Hit and Run
• Police received a report of a hit and run accident at 4:01 p.m. June 1 in the area of First and Ogden avenues. The caller reported a purple Saturn had side swiped her vehicle and then left the scene.
• A hit and run accident was reported after a caller told police a truck hit their vehicle and did not stop at 3:13 p.m June. 3.
Theft and burglary reports
• A resident of the 8000 block of West 45th Court reported at 5:32 a.m. May 30 that four bicycles were stolen from his backyard, as well as numerous flower pots. The victim told police he believed the items were stolen by four teenagers in a old, four door blue Ford. Police were not able to locate the offenders. Police received a second report in the same block at about the same time who said four flower pots were stolen that were recently planted. Some of the property was later recovered at about 10 a.m. on a lawn nearby.
• A Ryobi drill, saw, charger, trailer hitch and chain were stolen from a tool box on a truck in the 4500 block of Warsaw Avenue, as reported at 8:48 a.m. June 2.
• Coins, 30 to 40 music CDs and a car charger were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 4600 block of South Warsaw Avenue as reported to police at 2:24 p.m. June 3.
• A lawnmower was reported stolen in the 8200 block of West 45th Street June 3.
• A vehicle parked in a parking lot in the 8500 block of West 45th Place overnight between June 2 and June 3 was burglarized of an iPod Touch, a resident reported at 9:34 a.m. June 4. The vehicle's doors were possibly left unlocked. A phone was found in the vehicle that did not belong to the owner, which was held as evidence.
• A bar fight was reported at Marlins in the 7200 block of West 39th Street at 12:19 p.m. June 4. The victim declined to press charges.
• Police were called at 4:50 p.m. to Walgreens, 4101 S. First Avenue, for a report of a man with a knife. The manager told police an employee had seen a man open a package of knives and remove one. When confronted, the man ran out of the store leaving them behind. Police were unable to locate the offender, but believed the incident was an attempted theft.
