Touch-A-Truck kicks off Sycamore’s Tuesdays on the Town

Honks and sirens could be heard Tuesday night from downtown Sycamore as part of Discover Sycamore’s Touch-A-Truck event.

The event, part of the Tuesdays on the Town series, brought in local trucks that lined part of Somonauk Street. Families were welcome to take photos, honk the horns and climb aboard.

“The event is a good way to remind residents that we have a nice downtown,” said Rose Treml, Sycamore Chamber of Commerce executive director. “We like to keep the downtown as a gathering place.”

Trucks included the Kishwaukee College training semi, tow trucks, municipal trucks, and a firetruck, where children could spray the fire hose to knock down cones.

“My son loves trucks, anything that moves or goes,” Catherine Finn of Sycamore said.

Finn’s daughter, Fiona, 6, said she liked the tow truck’s “bright lights.”

“We like to be a part of this to stay local,” said Adam Benn, general manager of Accurate Towing & Recovery. “The kids love running up and down the bed. Then the police car gets its sirens going and it trumps me.”

Treml said she hoped the Tuesdays on the Town events, the second Tuesday of each month through September, would create a fun, family atmosphere downtown.

Michael Anderson, Sycamore police administrative sergeant, said the department participated in last year’s event.

“It’s a way to interact with the community, and the kids like to play with the siren,” Anderson said. “It’s nice talking to everybody and visiting with the kids.”

Sarah Ciolino of Sycamore, and her children, came to the event for the second year in a row.

“[My son] loves trucks, so we were super excited to see they were doing it again,” Ciolino said.

Ciolino’s daughter, Regan, 6, said she liked the big trucks the most.
