Ten local grapplers advance to quarters at Princeton Invitational

Storm hold off Mustangs in hoops

Parker Neuhalfen hit four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points, and the Bureau Valley Storm picked up a Three Rivers road win Friday night, downing the Morrison Mustangs 63-55.

Tommy Johnston added 13 points, and Josh Mead scored nine for BV (11-7, 3-0), which led 35-17 by halftime.

Kaleb Church had 15 points, and Hunter Hamstra added 13 for the Mustangs (6-11, 2-1).

Swimming

UT 115, Sterling 68:
Keaton Dir took part in three of the Golden Warriors' four event wins in a dual loss in East Moline.

Dir won the 200 freestyle (1:49.35) and 500 freestyle (5:04.48), and also anchored the victorious 400 freestyle relay team (3:35.31).

Cade Coursey had Sterling's other win, scoring 201.25 points in the 1-meter diving competition. Lucas Campbell, Blake Ruiz, and Sam Wike joined Dir on the winning relay squad.

Wrestling

Ten locals in Princeton quarterfinals: Three of the 14 weight classes at the Princeton Invitational are on track to feature a pair of local wrestlers squaring off for the title.

Rock Falls' Jevon Hey and Newman's Hunter Webb are in the quarterfinals on opposite sides of the 113-pound bracket; Dixon's Kylian Lally and Newman's Jake Snow are both in the quarters at 145 pounds; and Morrison's Austin Keller and Newman's Brandon Ahlgrim are both still alive for the title at 152 pounds.

Newman's Brady Rude (160) and Bryce Ivey (170) are also into the quarterfinals, as are Rock Falls' Lucas Newburgh (182) and Morrison's Joe Eads (106).

Newman is the top local squad in the 33-team field, sitting in eighth place with 51 points. Morrison is tied with LeRoy for 23rd (30 points), with Rock Falls in 25th (29) and Dixon in 26th (27.5).

Dakota leads the way with 81.5 points, with Monticello (71), Byron (68), Vandalia (62.5) and Wilmington (58) rounding out the top five.


Erie-Prophetstown 68, Kewanee 12: The Panthers won eight of the nine contested matches, and also received four forfeits from the visiting Boilermakers.

Logan Voss (106 pounds), Josh Wheeler (138), Jared Cole (145), Nick Williams (170), Nathan Lilly (220) and Jordan Westerfield (285) all won by pin for Erie-Prophetstown. Grady Todd (132) and Dylan Binion (152) both added 9-1 major decisions.
