William Greek

HENRY — William D. Greek, 74, of Henry died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at his home. He was a resident of the Henry and Putnam area all of his life.

Born Aug. 17, 1939, in Princeton to William C. and Ardis Drake Greek, he married Nan J. Trovero on Jan. 1, 1983. She died on June 4, 2004.

Bill had served his country in the U.S. Army. He was involved in farming and agri-business all of his life. He served as a volunteer fireman in the Henry Fire Protection District for more than 30 years. He was also a former school board member, chairman of the Marshall-Putnam unit of the American Cancer Society, a member of the Henry American Legion, a board member of the Henry Community Food Pantry, active with Henry Red Stocking Fund and a member of the First Christian Church in Henry where he served as deacon, elder and chairman of the board. Bill later joined the Henry Presbyterian Church and became active there.

He was a member of the Henry Rotary Club, past club president and a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was a Group Study Exchange team member to Australia. In 2007 he was named Rotarian of the Year. Bill was named Henry’s Community Leader of the Year in 2010 by the Henry Chamber of Commerce. He was past master of Henry Masonic Lodge, Peoria Consistory and Mohammed Shrine of Peoria, where he served as Potentate in 1980. He served as a board member of the Shriner Hospital in Chicago for 10 years including three years as board secretary. He was also a member of Peoria Court 40, Royal Order of Jesters.

Surviving are one daughter, Cyrena (Jerry) Anderson of Greenville, S.C.; two sons, Tyler (Samantha) Greek of Plainfield and Nathaniel (Jesica) Greek of Tega Cay, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, William, Nicholas, Zachery, Brandon, Trevor, Daniel and Madison.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Greek; a grandson, Andrew Greek; and his parents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry Presbyterian Church, 511 Wirt St.,  Henry. A Masonic service will be at 3:15 p.m. and a memorial services will follow at 3:30 p.m. Military rites will be accorded after the service. The Rev. Steven Hill, Father Tom Mizeur and Pastor Terry Broady will officiate.

Bill had donated his body to science.
