Italian families strike back at Godmother Throw Down

LEMONT – A year after non-Italians won four out of the five categories at the Godmother Throw Down, Italians swept nearly all the categories at the cooking competition held on Aug. 24 as part of Festa EATaliana.

The event, which is a fundraiser for St. Al's/St. Pat's School, also featured an evening of food, drinks and live music outside of Bottles.

Winners from the Godmother Throw Down included:

Auntie Antipasti Grapas Tapas: Scumaci family, meatballs, gravy and bruschetta

Nonna’s Mangia Main Dish: Jen Pickering, chicken marsala

Godmother Meatball Throw Down: Valenti family

Grazie Sunday Gravy and Oh Mio Mia Macaroni: (tie) Fairclough family and Culcasi family

Goombah’s Gluten Free: Jason Bruce, eggplant parmesan

Holy Cannoli Cousins Deserts: (tie) Andreotti family, Italian cheesecake, and Fairclough family, gelato
