Police reports: Berwyn and Cicero for Aug. 8

BERWYN

Burglaries and thefts

• An air conditioner unit was reported stolen from a gas station in the 6400 block of Roosevelt Road at 3:30 p.m. July 26.

• School books, clothing and a school bag were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 3700 block of South Clinton Avenue at 9:42 a.m. July 28. Entry was gained through a rear broken window.

DUI

• Frank R. Kvasnicka, 26, of the 3400 block of South Clinton Avenue, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with no insurance and several other traffic charges after he crashed a borrowed motorcycle and struck two cars near the intersection of East and Windsor avenues at 11:14 p.m. July 26. Kvasnicka was transported to Loyola University Medical Center. The owner of the motorcycle, Jorge Batista Hidalgo, 33, of the 6500 block of West Fairfield Avenue, was also cited for allowing an unauthorized person to drive his motorcycle.

• Nora E. Ellis, 23, 300 block of North Catherine Avenue, La Grange, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after the car she was driving westbound on Ogden Avenue crossed into oncoming lanes, drove up the parkway, hit a tree and rolled over at 5:47 a.m. July 27. Ellis was also charged with having no proof of insurance, failure to reduce speed and improper lane useage.

CICERO

Burglaries and thefts

• A furnace, hot water heater and copper tubing were reported stolen from a vacant residence in the 2300 block of South 58th Avenue July 30. It is unknown at this time how entry was gained.

• A washing machine and dryer as well as copper wire was reported stolen from a vacant residence in the 5700 block of West 22nd Place July 30. It is unknown at this time how entry was gained.

• A Rolex watch, miscellaneous jewelry, an XBox system and $800 in cash was reported stolen from a residence in the 1600 block of South Austin Boulevard.

• A power stretcher, Skil saw, drill, iron and an Android phone were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 4700 block of West Roosevelt Road July 30. It is unknown at this time how entry was gained.

• A car stereo, television, wallet with miscellaneous credit cards, iPod, iPhone 5, GPS and a tool box with various tools were reported stolen from a truck parked in the 2300 block of South Cicero Avenue on July 31. Entry was gained by breaking a window to the truck.

• A 50-inch Vizio television and a Toshiba laptop were reported stolen from a residence in the 4900 block of West 30th Place July 20.

• A Bulova watch and a Sony DVD player were reported stolen from a residence in the 2400 block of South 57th Court on July 27.

• Miscellaneous gold jewelry was reported stolen from a residence in the 1200 block of South 58th Avenue July 26. Entry was gained by pushing an air conditioner through the window and inside the residence.

• Someone entered an unlocked service door and removed a black tool box from a garage in the 5000 block of West 23rd Street on July 2. Entry was gained through an unlocked service door.

• A Samsung Galaxy 27-inch monitor, Rolex replica watch and another watch were reported stolen from a residence in the 1600 block of South Austin Boulevard July 28. Entry may have been gained through a key in possession by a former roommate.

• A PS3 game system, Sony DVD player, a bicycle and a 32-foot and 24-foot ladder
were reported stolen from a residence in the 6100 block of West 21st Street July 28. Entry was gained by forcing a rear door.

• A dashboard stereo system, tools and a garage door opener were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a garage in the 5700 block of West Cermak Road July 28. The vehicle was unlocked at the time.

• A Kenwood stereo was reported stolen from the dashboard of a vehicle parked in the 4800 block of West 28th Street July 28. Entry was gained by breaking a rear passenger window.

• A Panasonic stereo, shoes and eight basketball jerseys were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2600 block of South Cicero Avenue July 27. It is unknown at this time how entry was gained.

DUI charges

• Raul Ortiz-Garcia, 25, of the of 2500 block of South Lawndale Avenue, Chicago, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence and possesion of a controlled substance after officers responded to a hit and run accident and located the offending vehicle in the 300 block of South 49th Avenue July 28. Ortiz-Garcia was placed into custody. Observations by police led to a DUI investigation, which subsequently led to charging Ortiz-Garcia with aggravated DUI and other traffic violations. A plastic bag containing suspected cocaine was also found in Ortiz-Garcia's clothing.

• Juan Sahagun, 33, of Cicero, was charged with DUI after officers responded to a hit and run accident and stopped Sahagun's described vehicle in the 1900 block of South Austin Boulevard on July 27. He and a passenger, Efrain Saharan, 28, of Cicero, both exited the vehicle while holding an open Modelo beer in their hands. Efrain Sahagun was charged with possesion of a controlled substance after surrendering a small amount of cocaine to the arresting officers.
