DUPAGE COUNTY – A former English teacher who pled guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting a former student began the first part of his 10-year prison sentence July 5, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
Edwin Klemm, 43, of St. Charles, pled guilty to having a sexual relationship with a then 16-year-old student from February 1, 2011 until November 30, 2011. He agreed to plead guilty to the two counts instead of the 11 he was originally charged with and to resign his position at Wheaton North High School.
According to an earlier news release from the state's attorney's office, Klemm assaulted the female victim on multiple occasions, including at least once at home while his daughter was at the residence where the incident took place. The assaults were discovered when the parents of the former student found love letters from Klemm to the student. The parents then contacted the DuPage County Children's Center, who opened an investigation.
Klemm is required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. The 100 days he served in prison before the plea bargain will count towards his sentence, according to the state's attorney's office.
