Fruland Funeral Home is celebrating 100 years of funeral service to Morris and the surrounding area.
T.A. Hoganson was a partner with Mr. Phelan in 1913, and he bought the business in 1916 and moved to a storefront at the Grundy County National Bank.
Mr. Hoganson later purchased the residence of W.F. Page at 121 W. Jefferson St. and converted it to a funeral home. A two-story garage and living quarters have been added to the south end and a handicapped ramp to the north end.
Earle Fruland was associated from 1935 until he became owner upon the death of his uncle, Tyler Hoganson, in 1948. Earle’s son, Paul Fruland, joined the business in 1955, and became owner in 1973, until his retirement in 2000.
Richard Hexdall, who began his funeral career with Earle and Paul Fruland in 1972, purchased the business in 2000, and is the current owner along with his staff of Kenneth Gauthier and Leroy Claypool.
The business continues to serve all families, offering prepaid funerals, funeral personalization and cremation services.
