The love for everything sports is what propelled Dan and Nancy Cappello into the business of chicken wings.
The Antioch couple opened a sports-themed restaurant and pub called Wings Etc. last month at 480 Orchard St. in Antioch. The restaurant is a franchise with two other locations in Illinois and in other states including Indiana, Michigan and Missouri.
Lake County Journal reporter Yadira Sanchez Olson spoke with the Cappellos about their new venture.
Why did you decide to open the restaurant?
Dan: We were always looking to do something with a unique concept. We liked this one. We liked the design of the restaurants and thought it would be a good fit for Antioch. Most people enjoy wings.
What's the vibe in your establishment?
Nancy: It's a family-friendly sports bar atmosphere.
Dan: We sell burgers, pulled pork, wraps, salads and we have a full open bar area where you can get any drink you can think of and more. We have full tankers, which is a drink in a football helmet that sits at your table so the entire party can drink. Every seat has a perfect view of a TV.
What did the two of you do before you opened the restaurant?
Dan: I still work at Ray's Chevrolet in Fox Lake.
Nancy: I'm a teacher's aid at SEDOL in Gurnee.
Dan: We're gonna see how it goes and decide if we go back to our jobs or not.
What are your prices like?
Dan: Lunch starts at $8 including a drink and a dinner starts at $10 including a drink.
Wings Etc. is open 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, call 847-395-7777.
