Keith Giagnorio sworn in among new Lombard Village Board

LOMBARD – The board room at Village Hall was standing-room only and jovial in spirits as Lombard's first new village president in nearly 20 years was sworn in to office along with other village leaders.

Keith Giagnorio, who previously served as the board's District 2 trustee, took his oath of office Thursday night as Lombard's next village president. He followed the legacy of the late Bill Mueller, who served in the position for 19 years.

"This is overwhelming to see this many people here," Giagnorio said. "It gets my blood going."

Along with a new village president, three trustees and a new village clerk were sworn in.

Sharon Kuderna became Lombard's village clerk after the longtime service of former Clerk Brigitte O'Brien. Dan Whittington stepped into the role of District 1 trustee and Reid Foltyniewicz took the District 3 seat.

Bill Ware, re-elected as District 6 trustee, also was sworn in with the group.

All won seats during the April 9 consolidated election.

Giagnorio's first comments as village president briefly addressed the discord that the board experienced during the months following Mueller's death, and he called for the new board to focus on working cooperatively.

"I was a part of it. These last few months have been a little rough, but it's time to move on," he said. "It's unhealthy to live in the past. We learn from the past, but now we're going to move forward.

"I need everyone's help," Giagnorio continued. "I've learned in the past three weeks after the election that this is not a one-man job."

As part of another change to the Village Board make-up Thursday night, trustees approved Giagnorio's appointment of Mike Fugiel to his vacated District 2 trustee seat.
