Donald McKinney, the husband of Jacqueline McKinney — who lost the Minooka mayoral election last week to incumbent Patrick Brennan — is being charged with criminal damage to property for allegedly removing and damaging a Brennan campaign sign April 2.
According to a press release from Grundy County State’s Attorney Jason Helland, Donald McKinney, 47, of Minooka, allegedly removed a campaign sign from its wire structure and tore the campaign sign in the process, causing less than $300 in damage.
He is also charged in a criminal information with attempted theft for knowingly and without lawful authority attempting to exert unauthorized control over property of the Friends of Patrick Brennan.
McKinney is due in court May 20 for the charge.
McKinney, who in last Tuesday’s election won a seat on the Minooka District 201 School Board, is the superintendent and principal of Nettle Creek Community Consolidated School District 24C.
