Senior citizens dance the night away

High schoolers, area seniors share floor at MCHS Sock Hop

MINOOKA — The dancers were twirling and bopping. It was Saturday night, March 2, at the high school dance, except the dancers were not high only high school seniors, but senior citizens as well.

Minooka Community High School’s National Honor Society offered area senior citizens a night to dance and reminisce on Saturday, March 2 at the MCHS Central campus.

The high schoolers dressed in their party best, but it was the senior citizens who busted the moves with the partner dancing.

The floor was crowded with dancers of all types, couples and line dancers, all of whom appeared to be having a great time. The music was classic pop and rock.

Sharon Griffin of Braidwood, along with Larry Sprengel of Diamond, led a group of high school students.
"All the kids love to learn the line dancing," she said as she moved smoothly through the steps with a group of students behind her following exactly.

Another senior citizen couple, Donna and John Owen of Plainfield, Ill., attended for the first time. They seemed completely comfortable dancing together keeping time to the rhythms.

“We came with friends of ours, several couples. It’s very cute,” Donna said.
