Ronald Sampo

LAMOILLE— Ronald L. Sampo, 80, of LaMoille died on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at his residence.
 
He was born on April 12, 1932, in Toulon, the son of Barto "Butch" and Winifred (Brain) Sampo. He married Carol Fundell Dec. 26, 1953, in Cherry.
 
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from December 1952 to August 1953. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Arlington and the Mendota VFW Post 4079. He was a longtime member of the Mendota Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family and friends.
 
He graduated from LaMoille High School in 1950 and attended the American Institute of Technology, earning his degree in electrical engineering. He was chief engineer at Electrical Utilities Co. in LaSalle and proceeded in 1980 to be co-founder of Ronken Industries in Spring Valley, where he served as president until his retirement in 1998.
 
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of LaMoille; two daughters, Debra King of Mendota and Donna Clinton of LaMoille; five grandchildrem, Heather Dober of Van Orin, Casey (Ramon) Torres of LaSalle, Matthew King of LaSalle, Douglas Sampo of Arizona and Steven Clinton of LaMoille; and three great-grandchildren, Adam Dober, Logan Dober, and Avery Torres.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dennis Sampo, in 2006.
 
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Church in Arlington, the Rev. Patrick Fixsen officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in LaMoille Township. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 4079.
 
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota.
