SYCAMORE - A 23-year-old Freeport man who police said pointed a gun at bar staff in June was sentenced this week to probation and community service.

Kevin T. Oppold, of the 2500 block of Woodland Ridge, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and unlawful use of a weapon, both felonies. He was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation and 100 hours of public service.

Police said Oppold was involved in a fight outside Fatty's Pub & Grille in DeKalb. The other man involved with the fight left, but Oppold returned soon afterward with a small, silver pistol, and pointed it at staff while yelling for the other man, according to court documents.

Police found Oppold outside in then-home in DeKalb with a marijuana cigarette behind his ear, court records show. During a search of his home, police found the gun, more than 30 grams of marijuana and marijuana packaging materials, court records show. He did not have a firearm owner's identification card.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped several less serious charges related to the same case.
