MAPLE PARK – A Maple Park man has been convicted of possessing a large amount of marijuana that he planned to sell.
David A. Cappadora, 37, of the 50W block of Old State Road, Maple Park, was convicted Tuesday by a Kane County jury of one count of unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a Class X felony, and one count of unlawful possession of cannabis, a Class 1 felony.
On Sept. 16, 2011, Kane County Sheriff's deputies, acting on a tip, went to Cappadora's house, located about two miles north of Maple Park. Cappadora gave his permission to the deputies to search his house, where they found 5,153 grams (about 12 pounds of marijuana), along with materials used to package marijuana for sale and scales, according to a press release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
When questioned by the deputies, Cappadora acknowledged that the marijuana was his and that he sells it and gives it to friends, the press release stated.
During the trial, Kane County Sheriff's Deputy Ron Hain, who investigated the case, testified that the marijuana has a street value of between $200,000 and $300,000. Cappadora faces a sentence of between six and 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
He remains free on a $3,500 bond.
