Larc Jewelers, the oldest established jeweler in Glen Ellyn, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this winter, and 11-year owner Wes Barrow is excited for the opportunity to thank the people of Glen Ellyn for allowing the jewelry store to remain a part of the community for so long.
“Glen Ellyn is just such a unique, quaint community,” Barrow said. “I enjoy being part of it.”
Larc Jewelers was opened in 1972 by Erving Grobman, and Barrow began working as a sales associate at the jewelry store in 1990. He managed the store in the late 1990s after Grobman moved to Arizona, until he purchased Larc Jewelers in 2001.
Now, Larc Jewelers is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a trunk show Thursday through Saturday that will include prize drawings, special discounts and additional merchandise, right in time for the holidays.
The trunk show is a way to celebrate the store’s 40 years of service in the community and to thank the people of Glen Ellyn for their support by giving them a headstart on their holiday shopping, Barrow said.
“The support of the town has been tremendous,” he said. “I’m just so grateful that people have continued to support our business in a weaker economy.”
The trunk show will run during regular business hours, and everyone is welcome to visit the store, located at 479 N. Main St., to enter their name in the prize drawings with no purchase necessary. Trunk show prizes include a William Henry money clip and Bertucci watch, with a lemon quartz and diamond necklace valued at $1,795 as the grand prize.
Larc Jewelers will offer a variety of discounts on watches and more.
The store’s selection of colored gemstones is one of the features that sets it apart from other jewelers, Barrow said.
While many jewelers tend to focus solely on bridal and engagement rings, Barrow likes to offer a wide variety of fancy gemstone pieces as well.
With his 22 years at Larc Jewelers, he said he’s learned brand names are not what matters to customers. They care more about the prettiness of a piece.
Larc Jewelers’ selection includes between 30 and 40 variations of fancy gemstones, including varying shades of the same stones.
“When people come in here, they’re going to see very unique things from around the world,” Barrow said.
He said Larc Jewelers focuses on providing the best customer service possible, service that is not dictated by a corporate office because he owns the store himself.
The jeweler’s 40 years in the Glen Ellyn community shows that just as customers have continued to support the store, the store has continued to dedicate itself to giving customers what they want, Barrow said.
“It’s a testament to what we’re doing for our customers, and I’m very fortunate that they continue to put their faith in me,” he said.
