Pi Pizza Perfection closes in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES – Another downtown restaurant has closed.

Pi Pizza Perfection, 102 E. Main St., no longer is open. A “no trespassing” notice is posted on the doors, the doors are locked and the restaurant is closed. Its phone number has been disconnected. Attempts to reach the owners for comment were unsuccessful.

“We’re always sorry to see a good business leave,” said Lynne Schwartz, executive director of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership.

In addition to pizza, the two-story restaurant served salads, sandwiches and pasta. City records indicate it had been open since at least February 2007, said Michael Mertes, economic development coordinator.

Its location across from City Hall made Pi Pizza Perfection a convenient eatery for city workers, he said.

“Pi definitely served the daytime contingent,” Mertes said, but he noted it reduced its lunch hours in recent months.

The city will market the now vacant storefront, he said. Because it was a restaurant, it lends itself best to that kind of use, but retail could be an option with the first-floor access.

Bistro One West along West Illinois Street and Isacco Kitchen along Cedar Street also closed this fall. Isacco Kitchen’s website, however, indicates it still is available for catering and parties, and it will reopen in January under a new concept.

“It’s still a tough time economically,” Mertes said. “A lot of restaurants and retail everywhere are still feeling hurt.”

He said the city will do everything it can to fill vacancies. He stressed how important it is to support local businesses throughout the community.

“You can never have too much community support,” Mertes said.
