Arraignment date for Heidi Till, woman who shot at Westmont police, set for later this month

A court hearing scheduled monday for a Westmont woman charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing a handgun at police was postponed until later this month.

The arraignment date for Heidi Till, 45, of 329 S. Lincoln Ave., is now scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19 in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Till was scheduled to be arraigned in court Monday, but the hearing was postponed after one of the Westmont police officers involved in the case could not attend, said Paul Darrah, a spokesman for the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Till was charged last month with attempted murder — a Class X felony — for allegedly firing a handgun at police officers on June 1, when police responded to her house after a call of a woman with a handgun threatening to kill herself, according to police.

Till allegedly fired the gun three times, the third shot while pointing the gun in the officers’ direction. Both officers then returned fire striking Till in her head and chest. Till was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for her injuries.

She turned herself into the Westmont Police Department on Sept. 28 when she posted 10 percent of her $50,000 bail. As part of the conditions of her bail, Till has been confined to her home due to a medical condition suffered from being shot by police, according to the state's attorney's office.

Authorities allege that in the early afternoon on June 1, Till called 911 and informed the dispatcher that she had a gun and was threatening to kill herself. Officers were dispatched to Till's residence where they allegedly found Till on the back porch of her home with a loaded handgun. One of the officers briefly engaged Till in conversation before she allegedly opened fire, according to a press release from the state's attorney's office.

If convicted, Till could be sentenced from six to 30 years in prison.
