Owen Elberts

COAL CITY, Ill. — Mr. Owen Elberts, 20, of Coal City, Ill., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012.

Born Sept. 21, 1991,  in Joliet, Owen is the son of Robert and Joelle Burek-Elberts. He was raised and educated in Coal City, and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 2010.

Owen worked as mechanic insulator with Starcon at the Citgo Refinery in Lemont. Owen loved racing, which included go-kart, BMX, and drag racing. He won numerous championships at Jules Raceway in Wilmington, and also greatly enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Joelle Elberts, and sister, Angelle Elberts, all of Coal City; paternal grandmother Cheryl Bieber of Morris, Ill.; maternal grandparents Jeanne Bebej of Braceville, Ill., and Stanley Burek of Joliet, Ill.; two aunts, Crystine Pratt of Odell, Ill., and Cherisse (Frank) Jess of Crest Hill, Ill.; and two cousins, April Hadrys of Bloomington, Ill.,  and Connie Hadrys of Arkansas.

Owen was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles Elberts; an uncle, Eugene Elberts; and one cousin, Robbie Wagner.

Visitation and video tribute will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois 113) in Coal City. Family graveside services and burial will follow Monday, Sept. 17, in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Morris.

Preferred memorial may be made as gifts in Owen's memory to his family for distribution to charities of their choosing.
