RURAL RETREAT, Va. – Russell Earl Lahman, 82, of Rural Retreat, Va., died peacefully Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his home.

He was the oldest of 10 siblings, and was born June 14, 1930, in Dixon, to Russell and Ada Lahman. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant in 1953.

Russell is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Lahman; his children, Janice Martin of Lawrenceville, Ga., Kathy Slusher and fiancé Jeff Butz of Rural Retreat, Heidi Shupe and husband Larry of Wytheville, Va., and Russell John Lahman and fiancé Lyndsey Clemons of Lawrenceville; three grandchildren, Kyle Cunningham of Alabama, Kimberly Martin of Lawrenceville, and Joshua Shupe, USMC, currently serving in Japan; one great-granddaughter, Madison Snyder, in Atlanta; and five brothers, J.D., Paul, Jim, Bob, and Larry, and three sisters, Donna, Marguerite, and Marjorie, all of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ruth.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 5 p.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church in Rural Retreat, with Pastor Ed Schaack and Vicar Ryan Kobert officiating. Private interment, with military honors, will be at a later date at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. Arrangements were completed by Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat.
