Face Time with Joni Lindgren

0

Elgin resident Joni Lindgren was at the St. Charles Public Library collecting signatures for a ballot question when she answered 11 questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.

Where did you grow up? Rockford.

Who would play you in the movie of your life? Sandra Bullock.

What was your first job? Selling watches at Sears.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? An actress. I became a teacher instead, third grade, and then reading for at-risk children.

Is there a movie you would recommend? "Iron Jawed Angels." It's about women fighting for the right to vote in 1916. They would get arrested and put in jail and force-fed with metal clamps and rubber tubes.

Do you have a favorite charity? The Environmental Defense Fund.

What is your guilty pleasure? Watching Pierce Brosnan.

Do you have any hobbies? I am an activist. I am trying to save the middle class.

Why are you gathering signatures? It is a ballot question for Kane County asking if the U.S. Constitution should be amended to limit the use of corporate, special interest and private money in any political activity, including influencing the election of any candidate for public office. We want to repeal Citizens United, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that said corporations were people. And we know that corporations are not people.

What is your favorite local restaurant? Olive Garden in St. Charles.

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I met Bette Midler and Richard Dreyfuss while they were making "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" in 1986. And I had my picture taken with Jimmy Stewart. We were in Hollywood both times. When I was about 8 or 9 years old, my folks were going up and down the street looking for movie stars' houses. Jimmy Stewart came out of his house, and I asked to have my picture taken with him and he said yes.
