ST. CHARLES – St. Charles teen band The Giving Moon broadened its fan base after playing at the Kane County Fair last week.

But the members of the band have an even bigger venue in their sights – the House of Blues in Chicago. And they are inching closer to that goal.

Earlier this month, The Giving Moon advanced to the finals of the Independent Arts and Musical Festival’s Battle of the Bands 2012. The Giving Moon will play against four other bands at the Elbo Room in Chicago on Saturday to earn the right for a spot at I AM Fest 2012 at the House of Blues in Chicago.

“It would be such an honor to play at such a big and well-known place,” said Adam Suto, 13, who plays bass in The Giving Moon.

The first-place winner will receive a second slot at I Am Fest and a $200 gift certificate to Sonic Palace Recording Studios in Oak Park, and the second-place winner will receive an opening slot at I Am Fest.

The Giving Moon will perform on stage at the Elbo Room at 10 p.m. Saturday. The show will be streamed live at www.battle.iamfest.com, where people can also cast their votes for bands in the contest.

Suto said making it to the finals has boosted the band’s confidence. Drummer Ryan Brasley, 14, said he is pleasantly surprised at the reaction the band is getting.

“People we don’t even know are saying they like our music,” Brasley said. “They are leaving us Facebook messages, saying ‘You guys rock’ and that they can’t wait to see us again.”

The Giving Moon is comprised of Sean Seales on lead vocals and guitar, Marcello Positano on rhythm guitar, Brasley on drums and Suto on bass.

This has been a busy summer for the young band. The Giving Moon also is working on its first album, which it hopes to release at the end of the summer.

The band won 10 hours of recording time at RJ Recording & Sound in Geneva in a battle of the bands competition in February at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles. And Suto is confident the band can notch another win on Saturday.

“I think our love for the music and wanting to play at the House of Blues will help us win,” he said.
