CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Commandant of the United States Coast Guard has awarded the Coast Guard Commendation Medal to Lieutenant Ryan T. Crose for Outstanding Achievement from July 2008 to June 2012 while assigned to the Ninth Coast Guard District Command Center, Cleveland, Ohio.

There are only two higher awards in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Demonstrating superb professionalism, resourcefulness and attention to detail, he made major contributions to the Command Center’s oversight of over 2,600 response cases, saving or assisting more than 4,300 lives and $15.4 million in property.

Crose’s professional expertise was demonstrated as Command Duty Officer on July 4, 2011, when he successfully managed and oversaw 81 operational cases, one of the district’s highest daily totals in over five years.

Exhibiting flawless mission execution during the Major Marine Casualty response to a debilitating fire aboard the tug Patrice McCallister, he supervised an expeditious bi-national response that saved the lives of six mariners, and then he astutely transitioned the response to mitigate the potential release of 70,000 gallons of diesel fuel.

As liaison to the District’s four Sector Commands, Crose developed innovative procedures from Command Center Assist Visits that were recognized as best practices and adopted by the National Command Center Standardization Team as requirements for all Coast Guard Command Centers.

Routinely displaying outstanding commitment to his shipmates, he pursued basic and advanced training as a Critical Incident Stress Management Peer, earning a Certificate of Specialization in Mass Destruction and Terrorism, a qualification that he often used to help unit crews and command center peers constructively manage job-related stress.

He also skillfully managed a $172,000 annual budget, adjusting well to dynamic budget guidelines and taking care of customer needs. Lieutenant Crose’s dedication, judgment, and devotion to duty are most heartily commended and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard.

Lieutenant Crose is a 2002 graduate of Morris Community High School and is married to the former Brittany Laube. They have three children: Mialya, almost 5; Mersadies, almost 4; and Matiyas, who just turned 1.

The Coast Guard has relocated Lieutenant Crose to the east coast where he has been promoted to Chief of Enforcement Coast Guard Air Station at Cape Cod, Maine.
