McHENRY – Don Musielak founded Mastercoil Spring in 1982 with four employees and three high-speed automatic coiling machines.

By 1984 the company had grown to 13 machines and 14 employees.

Half of those employees are still with the company today.

As the company celebrates its 30th anniversary, Musielak’s two eldest daughters, Cathy Musielak Miller and Sandi Musielak Wesinger are now co-owners.

Mastercoil manufactures coiled springs and wire forms for the dispenser industry, as well as for windows, ceiling fans, fasteners, automotive, caskets, mouse traps and lawn care.

The original plant was located on Front Street in McHenry. A new facility was built in 1988 in the Tonyan Industrial Park in McHenry. Since then, there have been two additions.

According to Sandi Musielak Wesinger, the company purchased another building in 2010 to separate Mastercoil’s business segments – spring coiling and wire forming. Located in the McHenry Corporate Center, the new facility has become Mastercoil’s corporate headquarters as well as the home of the company’s Wire Products Division.

Today, Mastercoil has more than 140 machines, 44 employees and is a global supplier shipping to Argentina, Canada, Chile, China, Germany, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland and the U.S.

“Under our dad’s guidance and with strong family support, we have progressed to a woman-owned business and at this 30-year milestone we are proud to carry on this legacy,” Sand Musielak Wesinger said.
