GENEVA – A new nail spa will open in Geneva on March 24. However, Well Polished, 228 S. Third St., will not just be like any nail spa, owner Megan Star said.
Star said there will be
iPads at every station instead of magazines and a drying room, where fingers and toes can dry in peace, while patrons watch TV or check email.
"I have developed a private line of polish that I have named after well-known people and places of Geneva," Star said.
These include High Tea at the Herrington, a French buff; Gimme S'more Graham's will be chocolate-colored polish while Swedish Daze is purple – after Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze; Show Me the Money Shodeen, a green tint; and Foxy River Red.
And, of course, a polish was named for the local paper: Give me the Scoop, Chronicle!, featuring a hue like a scoop of strawberry or peppermint ice cream, Star said.
A metallic blue in honor of Geneva High School still needs a name, so Star welcomes suggestions from students at wellpolishednailspa@hotmail.com.
"I need a name for it, so why not have high school students come up with a name?" Star said.
The one who comes up with the winning name would receive a gift certificate to Well Polished.
Her website www.wellpolished.net is still being constructed, but customers will be able to access it to set up appointments soon.
Star, 46, of St. Charles, was not always in the nail polish business. She used to buy distressed houses, fix them up and resell them in 90 days. A good business until the housing market took a dive.
"I got my nails done weekly," Star said. "I have been to many nail salons in the Chicago area, and I made a mental list of everything I would do differently that needed to be done. I used to say there has got to be something better than this – and this is it."
