OREGON – The owner of a well-known Ogle County campground lost his life in a snowmobile crash in northern Wisconsin last week.
Anthony F. Capaci, 39, of Elgin, died Friday when his snowmobile collided with a snowplow at 10:24 a.m. in Hurley, Wis., which borders the upper peninsula of Michigan.
Capaci owned Lake LaDonna Family Campground on Harmony Road southwest of Oregon. He bought the campground from Lamont and Veronica Gaston in 2010.
According to the website of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Capaci was traveling on a marked snowmobile trail in the city of Hurley, ran a stop sign and struck the snowplow.
He was pronounced dead at Grand View Hospital, Iron County Sheriff Tony Furyk said. He released no further details.
Several attempts to reach a spokesperson at Lake LaDonna were unsuccessful.
Capaci’s funeral was Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee. Survivors include his wife, Stacie, and their three sons, Vincent, Julian, and Ethan.
