ASHTON – Blair E. Eckburg, 85, of Ashton, formerly of Amboy, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at his home.

He was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Amboy, the son of Oliver and Myrtle (Virgil) Eckburg. Blair attended schools in Amboy. He graduated from Amboy High School, entered the Navy and served aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific during World War II. After honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked at ComEd for 38 years, retiring in 1984 as an area foreman. He married Lois Enrico on Nov. 12, 1966, in Amboy. He served on area volunteer fire departments for a total of 52 years, retiring in 2002. Blair was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Ashton, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, Lois of Ashton; sister, Maxine Ramsey of Broken Arrow, Okla.; brothers, Don (Patti) Eckburg of Golden, Colo., and Dick (Judy) Eckburg of Savannah, Ga.; sister-in-law, Judy Cleary of Tempe, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, three nephews and one niece.

Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by services at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Ashton, with Jonathan Black, pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Ashton Cemetery. Arrangements were completed by Coulon-Lyons Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services.
