Buehler-Yochem

Benjamin Yochem and Bridget Buehler were married Sept. 10, 2011, at the Dee Palmer Bandshell in DeKalb. Scott Nelson performed the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Lawrence and Marianne Buehler of DeKalb. The groom is the son of James and Jennifer Yochem of DeKalb.

The bride’s sister, Stephanie Condon, was the matron of honor, and the groom’s friend, Jeff Brown, was the best man. Ushers were Kyle Buehler, brother of the bride, and Ryan Prellwitz, cousin of the groom.

Mackenzie Condon, niece of the bride, was the flower girl and Brady Condon, nephew of the bride, was the ring bearer.

Katie Yochem, sister of the groom, and Paul Piraino and Carissa Rahn, friends of the couple, performed readings during the ceremony. Michael Strub, Patrick Sheridan and Michael Tunis performed the music during the ceremony.

The reception was held at St. Mary’s Memorial Hall in Sycamore.

Both the groom and bride graduated from DeKalb High School in 2006, which is where they first met. The bride is a graduate of Northern Illinois University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2009 and graduated in December 2011 with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. The groom received his associate’s degree from Kishwaukee College in 2009 and is the store manager of Little Caesars in DeKalb. The bride is currently substitute teaching and working at Pizza Villa.

The couple’s honeymoon, which was delayed by Hurricane Irene, was to vacation in Nassau, Bahamas. The newlyweds reside in DeKalb.

Kubasiak-Holcomb

Kaitlin Kubasiak and Brent Holcomb, both of Genoa, are engaged to be married June 30, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington.

The daughter of Tom and Cathy Kubasiak of Genoa, the bride-to-be is a 2006 graduate of Genoa-Kingston High School and a 2010 graduate of Northern Illinois University with a degree in elementary education. She is a first-grade teacher at Davenport Elementary School in Genoa.

The son of Paul and Marianne Holcomb of Genoa, the groom-to-be is a 2004 graduate of Genoa-Kingston High School and a 2008 graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in kinesiology. He received his doctorate of physical therapy from St. Ambrose University and is is employed as a physical therapist at St. Anthony Medical Center.

Olson-Smith

Sarah Olson and Joshua David Smith, both of of Rochelle, are engaged to married June 23, 2012, at Erickson Farm in Steward.

The daughter of Jerry and Connie Olson of Lee, the bride-to-be is a 2004 graduate of Indian Creek High School. She is employed as a truck dispatcher at Queens Trucking and Construction in Rochelle.

The son of Lynn Smith of Creston and David Smith of Steward, the groom-to-be is a 2004 graduate of Rochelle Township High School and a 2007 graduate of Kishwaukee College with a degree in criminal justice. He is employed as a project specialist at Crescent Electric Supply Inc. in Rockford.

Serota-Parker

Mr. and Mrs. Scott Serota of Highland Park announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Elizabeth Serota, to Nicholas Stephen Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Parker of DeKalb.

Amy is a 2008 graduate of Michigan State University, and recently earned her master's degree in nursing from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

Nick graduated summa cum laude from Northern Illinois University in 2006. Both Nick and Amy are enjoying successful careers in the health care industry. An October wedding is planned.

Lieving-Roach

Sarah Lieving and Richard Roach, both of Sycamore, are engaged to be married May 19, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Jeff and Jodi Haeffner of Sycamore. She is a 2005 graduate of Sycamore High School and employed by KishHealth System.

The groom-to-be is the son of Dale and Carla Roach of Sycamore. He is a 2003 graduate of Sycamore High School and is employed by Northern Partners in Mendota as a grain operations lead.

Persson-Turner

Deborah Ann Persson of Texas and Keenan Matthew Turner of Sycamore are engaged to be married July 7, 2012, at Afton Forest Preserve in DeKalb.

The daughter of Stephen and Jaime Persson of Sycamore, the bride-to-be is a high school English teacher in Brownsville, Texas.

The son of Rick and Anita Turner of Sycamore, the groom-to-be is employed at Ideal Industries in Sycamore.

95th birthday

Dorothy V. Phillips of Hinckley celebrated her 95th birthday at a private gathering on Jan. 15 hosted by her son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Nan Phillips, at their home in Batavia. Dorothy was born Jan. 13, 1917.

Dorothy is the mother of five children, Nancy (Jim) Martin of Hinckley, Larry (Shirley) Phillips of Houston, Texas, Arlene (Jim) Maze of Ocala, Fla., Ray (Nan) Phillips of Batavia and Dan Phillips of Hinckley.

She has 11 grandchildren, Marcia (Mark) Lee of Big Rock; Christal (Mark) Ready of Plainfield; Apryl (Matt) Menzer of Wheaton; Wendy (Erik) Lentz of Forest Grove, Ore.; Troy Phillips of Fort Worth, Texas; Teresa Phillips of North Carolina; Dwayne (Shelley) Maze of Midland, Mich.; Dennis (Amy) Maze of Ocala, Fla.; Jill (Nick) Marsh of Batavia; Todd (Kelly) Phillips of St. Charles; and Lisa Phillips of Montgomery.

She also has nine great-grandchildren.
