Sidmore wins top spot on ballot in 90th District

DeKalb County resident Dan Sidmore will hold the top spot on the ballot for the most crowded local primary race after winning the lottery draw for state representative of the 90th District.

Sidmore’s name will appear above fellow Republican hopefuls Liandro Arellano Jr., a Dixon businessman; Lee County Board member Tom Demmer; and Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson when voters go to the booth in the March.

Sidmore, a former Dennis Hastert aide, said being listed first on a ballot can give him an advantage.

“There is a percentage of favorability by being first on the ballot,” Sidmore said. “But we’re going to work hard, hard and harder. ... Every campaign is a battle.”

Sidmore and his fellow GOP candidates are vying for the seat vacated by Rep. Jerry Mitchell, R-Sterling, who announced he would not seek re-election.

The winner of the 90th District will represent parts of Lee, Ogle, DeKalb and LaSalle counties.
