CHANNAHON — A man was arrested today in relation to a hit-and-run incident that occurred in August and resulted in serious injuries to a Channahon man.
Donald A. Wood, Jr., 50, of the 200 block of Vista Lane in Minooka, was arrested on a warrant stemming from the Aug. 10 incident where a man was struck and severely injured by a vehicle on East Frontage Road of Interstate 55, about a half mile north of U.S. 6.
Wood was charged with failure to report an accident involving personal injury or death, a Class 2 felony, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a Class 4 felony. His bond was set at $30,000 and a Will County court date is pending, according to a press release from Channahon police.
"Our officers at the scene did an outstanding job of gathering the facts and preserving the physical evidence," Deputy Chief Jeff Wold said in the release. "Their hard work provided our detectives with a substantial amount of information to verify,"
The victim was 42-years-old at the time of the incident. He was walking on the roadway when he was hit, according to a previous Morris Daily Herald article. He was transported by helicopter to an area hospital at the time.
Later on the night of the incident, a Channahon officer found a silver 1999 Toyota Solara with a large amount of recent damage parked among some some shrubs in a remote area behind the Manor Motel. The vehicle, which had a dealer license plate on the rear, was towed to the Channahon Police Department as evidence.
"Detectives Bogart and McRaven conducted a very thorough and time consuming investigation prior to the warrant being issued," Wold said. "Additionally many of our officers have been in contact with the victim's family to check on the his recovery.
"Our entire department along with many community members concerned about this incident continue to keep him in their thoughts and wish for a complete recovery."
