New leadership put in place at Provena St. Joe's

JOLIET, Ill. — When Beth Hughes took the helm at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in September, the former chief operating officer had visions to grow the services Provena’s flagship hospital offers.

In order to set her goals in motion, the new president and CEO of Will County’s largest employer, set the course by announcing new leadership roles.

Two of those involved promotions and largely expanded responsibilities.

Stevens named chief operating officer

Amy Stevens has been named the chief operating officer at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Formerly regional vice president, strategy and business development for PSJMC and Provena Saint Mary’s in Kankakee, Stevens most recently had been tapped for special assignment involving the merger of Provena Health and Resurrection Health systems.

In her new role at Provena Health’s flagship hospital, Stevens has operations, as well as strategy, responsibilities. She will connect and leverage employed and aligned physicians, ambulatory networks, and acute hospitals for the medical center serving Joliet and surrounding communities in Will County.

Stevens has been — and will continue to be — involved in identifying emerging issues and shaping strategies to address growing pressures concerning access and sustainable models for health care delivery.

Stevens' past experience includes a decade with HCA, the largest hospital system in the United States.
Among her roles, she served as the chief strategy officer for Sunrise Health System, where she led the strategic development of system integration, operational improvements, and growth.

She had operational accountability for multi-hospital/multi-state service lines and expansion initiatives, including managed care, physician referral/network development, organized labor, physician alignment models, hospital-physician co-management and service line councils, regional referral hospital networks, and academic affiliations.

Previously, Stevens was executive director of strategic relations at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, responsible for operational execution of key service line expansions, strategy and business development.

Stevens earned her BA from Purdue University (Phi Beta Kappa) and her masters in Issues Management from California State-Sacramento.  She is a member of the inaugural Health Care System Reform Fellowship.

Stevens also sits on the health system’s employed physician practice Board of Trustees, hospital and health system Clinical Integration organization Boards, and formerly the Joliet Surgery Center Board of Directors and formerly on U.S. Senator Halverson’s Healthcare Advisory Council.

Nemri named chief administrative officer

Janice Nemri, formerly the vice president of clinical services and facilities at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center, has been named the chief administrative officer and has responsibility for the hospital-based operations of the organization.

Nemri joined PSJMC as director of imaging services in December 2005.  She was promoted to assistant vice president of clinical services and later as vice president of clinical services.

In 2010, her role expanded again to include responsibility for Facilities and Support Services. She is credited with successfully opening PSJMC’s first Immediate Care facility.

Nemri’s past experience includes more than 25 years of managing clinical and ancillary areas, including cardiology, laboratory services, physical therapy and imaging.

She had been administrative director for radiology and off-site imaging at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and was a crucial participant in the development of their Center for Health and Lombard Health Center/Immediate Care.

While at Elmhurst, she received the Presidential Award for Management Excellence. Prior to that, she was administrative director, clinical services, for a division of Adventist Health.

Her career started as a registered radiologic technologist at an 800-bed teaching hospital in Ohio. She was the recipient of the DuPont Outstanding Student award.

Nemri has a bachelor of science in health arts and a master’s degree in health care administration. She was one of the first in the country to earn certified radiology administrator designation and has a green belt in Six Sigma implementation.

Nemri is past president of the College of Imaging Administrators.
