Rock Falls firefighter Kyle Sommers prepares to assist in fighting Tuesday evening’s blaze at 503 Pleasant St. in Rock Falls.
The house was empty and no one was injured. The cause of the fire, which began in the garage, destroyed the two-story wood-frame house and caused heat damage to the home next door at 505, is under investigation, Capt. Dave Northcutt said.
Firefighters were on scene for 4 hours, from about 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Sterling, Dixon Rural, Dixon City, Morrison and Milledgeville departments responded, as did the state fire marshal’s office, the Red Cross, CGH Ambulance, Rock Falls Police and the Rock Falls electric department, which was called because of downed power lines, Northcutt said.
