STERLING – Joan H. Schultz, 80, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at her home, after a short illness. She retired from GE, Morrison, and later worked at Lake LaDonna for 5 years and Walmart Supercenter for 15 years.

Joan was born June 19, 1931, in Fargo, N.D., the daughter of Chester and Esther (Fetting) Miller. She married Ernest Schultz on July 17, 1950, in Rock Falls. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sterling, and was a volunteer for the PADS Homeless Shelter. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, helping people and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of Sterling; two daughters, Cenda Wilcox of Las Vegas, N.M., and Marda (Richard) Hoff of Fulton; two sons, Gary (Cindy) Schultz of Deer Grove and Terry Schultz of Rock Falls; one sister, Judy (Glenn) Virgin of Las Vegas, Nev.; four brothers, Clifford Miller of Rock Falls, Earl (Pat) Miller of Mount Morris, Dennis (Leona) Miller of Fulton, and Curtis (Muriel) Miller of Mount Morris; 10 grandchildren, Darla (TJ) Paone, Mike, Jessica, Aaron, Andrew, Michael, Brian, Jeff, Marce and Bobby; and four great-grandchildren, Haley, Zoey, Faith and Noah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Lester, Walter, Duane, Gordon, Ronald and Gerald; seven sisters, Doris, Viola, Ruth, Betty, Mildred, Ruby and Charlotte; and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Ave., Sterling. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Paul Judd and John Singletary co-officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
