ST. CHARLES – Scooby's Hot Dogs has been in business in the Chicago area for more than 20 years, but no other location is like the recently opened store in St. Charles.
This store, 818 E. Main St., not only feature's Scooby's hand-cut fries, foot-long polish sausages and 7-inch hot dogs, but it also offers Tastee-Freez products. If successful, this concept might expand to other Tastee-Freez locations, store manager Chris Brady said.
"So far, it's been pretty good," she said.
Though its headquarters are in West Chicago, the first Scooby's was opened in Bensenville by Joe Murphy, then a 17-year-old fresh out of high school, Brady said.
She said Murphy has opened 16 Scooby's in the Chicago area. Visually, the restaurants are known for their neon lighting, glass block counters and mirrored ceilings, she said.
After a summer of Scooby-izing the former home of Pop's Place and, more recently, Main Street/Tastee-Freez, Scooby's opened along East Main Street on Aug. 22.
Brady hopes the construction on East Main Street doesn't deter people from stopping in, she said. Already, she said, the eatery has had many returning customers.
"That's a good feeling," Brady said.
Scooby's wants to return the good by supporting local schools and businesses, Brady said, noting the business has already participated in a function for a St. Charles school.
On Labor Day, she said, Scooby's will give customers a free ice cream cone of any flavor and any size with the purchase of a hot dog.
