NELSON – Kindergarten and new student registration will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday for Nelson Elementary School, 207 Pope St. Birth certificates are needed for registration.

The first day of attendance and registration for all other students will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Book rental fees are $20 for all students. Milk money is $30 per school year. The district’s insurance carrier provides school time insurance to all Nelson School students at no cost. Additional information on coverage and costs is available at the school. The first full day of school is Wednesday.

Students to get $500 scholarships

DIXON – Sauk Valley Community College nursing students have been awarded $500 Health Educator of the Rock River Valley scholarships for the upcoming academic year.

The recipients are:

■ Donna Colum of Harvard is enrolled in Sauk’s Northern Illinois Online Initiative for Nursing program. She is a 1992 graduate of Ardmore High School and the daughter of Michael and Sherry Kilian of St. Petersburg, Fla. She has her master’s degree and plans to pursue a doctorate degree.

■ Lesley Cusumano of Mount Morris is a 2005 graduate of Rochelle Township High School and the daughter of Eric and Suzy Widick of McLeansboro. She plans to become a midwife.

■ Karen Newman of Tampico is a 1983 graduate of Lyons Township High School and the daughter of Dr. Robert Schenck of Chicago and Ruth Schenck of Prophetstown. She plans to pursue her bachelor’s degree.
