DWIGHT, Ill. — Mr. James D. Macketta, 96, of Dwight, Ill., and formerly of rural Verona, died at 3:21 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2011, at Heritage Manor, Dwight.
Born Oct. 24, 1914, in Coal City, James was the son of Michael and Mary (Fornelli) Macketta. He married Josephine Groff on Nov. 19, 1950 in Coal City. She preceded him in death.
James was a farmer in the Verona area. He was a member of the American Legion Post 352 in Mazon, having served three years in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.
He enjoyed playing cards in Kinsman. He was also a Cubs fan.
Survivors include his daughter, Betty (Allen) Gantzert of Dwight; grandchildren, Ashley (Christopher) Thompson of Channahon and Alyssa Gantzert of Dubuque, Iowa; a brother, John "Sonny" (Mae) Macketta of Coal City; and a sister, Christine (the late Ray) Henke of Coal City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; three sisters, Margaret Henke, Marie Williamson and Lorraine Macketta; and brother, Joseph Macketta.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight with a prayer service at 3:45 p.m.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dwight. Father James Rickey will officiate.
There will be a luncheon held after the service at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Parish Hall.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Braceville Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, Ill.
