DIXON – David L. Saul, 61, of Dixon, crossed the finish line and went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. He was surrounded by loved ones who sang him into the arms of his Savior from his bed at University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago. David underwent a stem-cell transplant in an effort to finally prevail in his 10-year battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
David was born Oct. 4, 1949, in Chicago, the son of Stanley M. and Maebel (Benjamin) Saul. He married Susan L. Hayes on May 17, 1980, in Chicago. David and Susan moved to Dixon in 1980 to work for the Walgreen estate.
David is survived by his wife, Susan; one daughter, Kathryn Lynn Saul of Dixon; one son, Joshua David Saul of Wilmington, N.C.; one brother, Marshall Gene (Marilyn) Saul of Spring Grove, Pa.; one sister, Agnes Mae (Brian) Parkhurst of El Paso, Texas; three nephews; one niece; five great-nephews; six great-nieces; and one great-great-nephew.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
David was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle.
He was a dear friend to many, and he always had a smile on his face. David was happily employed by Dixon Direct Printing Co. up until he passed. He was an active participant at Evangelical Free Church of Mount Morris, and loved singing praises to God. David took pleasure in cooking delicious meals for his family, especially on his favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. He will always be loved and never forgotten.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 2 at Evangelical Free Church of Mount Morris, with the Rev. Bruce McKanna officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. April 1, and from 10 to 11 a.m. April 2, at the church. Arrangements were completed by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Rockford.
