Megan Morrison Home and Garden and Moxie to merge in DeKalb

DeKALB – Megan Morrison Home and Garden in DeKalb will be combining with its sister store, Moxie.

Moxie and Megan Morrison Home and Garden stores manager Courtney Wilson, who is owner Megan Morrison's sister, said the move is part of a long-term business plan put in place three years ago and gives them more time to spend with their friends and families.

The change will mean the building at 237 E. Lincoln Highway no longer will house Megan Morrison Home and Garden, where it's been located for the past 11 years.

Wilson said they will be moving the most popular products from Megan Morrison Home and Garden to Moxie, which has been located at 230 E. Lincoln Highway for five years.

"We'll be able to fit it all in, but not change Moxie's feel," Wilson said.

The response from customers, Wilson said, has been positive. She said the business will retain all of its employees. There are no plans to sell or rent the Megan Morrison Home and Garden building.

Jennifer Groce, executive director for Re:New DeKalb, said she's confident Morrison's long-term plan will have a positive effect on the downtown.

"I look forward to watching their vision become a reality," Groce said.

Megan Morrison Home and Garden will be closed Tuesday through Feb. 11 to prepare for its moving sale, which will start at 10 a.m. Feb. 12.

Wilson said products are starting at 20 percent off, and the sale will continue until everything is gone.

Wilson said new products will be brought out of storage to be sold during the sale. Once the sale is over, Wilson said the site will be used for special purposes, such as vintage clothing sales.

Groce said both stores have had an important presence in DeKalb's downtown, and she commended them on following through with their business plan.

Groce said the vacancy rate for downtown businesses is at an all-time low, and Megan Morrison Home and Garden and Moxie are located in the most popular blocks of the area.

"They love their customers and have a wonderful commitment to the downtown," Groce said. "Now, they'll have some time for their lives and their families."
